Ukraine: LGBT soldiers fight stereotypes on and off the battlefield
Issued on:
As the war in Ukraine wages on, LGBT soldiers are trying to make sure they have equal rights as they fight for their country. Right now, same-sex partners can't make hospital visits and have no rights to their loved one's bodies. An online petition is trying to change that, in order to make sure that those fighting for Ukraine all have the same rights.
Our Observer, Borys Khmilevskiy, is a medic in the Ukrainian army. He is part of the effort trying to raise attention to the country's LGBT soldiers, in order to fight against stigma and inequality.
Right now in the Ukrainian army, it doesn't matter if you are the same gender or something for example, because it's more important what you are doing in the army right now and what we're doing for the Ukrainian win.
