Egypt: Phone thief finds himself broadcast on victim's Facebook live stream
Issued on: Modified:
The stunt was brief, effective, and seemed expertly executed... but had unlikely consequences. While a journalist from the media outlet "7e jour" was filming a road in Cairo, live on Facebook, to report on the consequences of an earthquake in Turkey felt as far away as Egypt, a man on a motorbike snatched his phone from him. The unsuspecting thief ended up broadcasting his face to up to 6,000 people.
From one second to the next, the video switches from a shot of a Cairo road to a low-angle view of a man's face, cigarette in his mouth, speeding away from the scene of the crime. He doesn't seem to realise that he is being filmed... and that he will be arrested a few hours later.
