In Cape Verde, rubbish from 25 countries found on one beach

For several months, volunteers from a nonprofit called Biosfera picked up rubbish on a beach called Achados, on the desert island of Santa Luzia in Cape Verde. Thanks to this massive cleanup campaign, they were able to clear tonnes of plastic waste and analyse where it came from by looking at labels.

The rubbish is not just ugly, it’s dangerous for loggerhead turtles that lay eggs every year on this beach. This species of turtles is considered vulnerable.
