A video filmed by an amateur shows two employees at a KFC restaurant (Kentucky Fried Chicken) near Johannesburg, South Africa, cleaning chickens on the floor. This footage definitely doesn’t help the fast food chain’s reputation, which is already tarnished.
In a press release published on the South African KFC website, the chain says that an internal investigation showed that the chicken in the video was not destined for consumption.
The press release states, "Why were they washing it? The franchise required the team to discard product before breading it to avoid breading (mixture of flour and our secret recipe of 11 herbs and spices) waste. The team had some waste that they had discarded with breading on it and they were washing it off to hide it from management.”
This explanation hasn’t convinced many people, if one is to judge by the comments circulating on social media.
Numerous social media users also expressed surprise at the rapidity of the “internal investigation.” The restaurant apparently re-opened several hours after the incident was first publicised.
