Do you have to be drunk to vote Berlusconi?

That’s what the Danish beer brand Ceres insinuates in its latest ad campaign, with posters plastered all over the Milan subway. “On February 24 and 25, vote first and drink later. Not like the last times. Italy needs a hero.” With just three weeks to go until Italy’s presidential elections, its citizens saw this as a reference to the last few elections, which were won by Silvio Berlusconi’s party.
This photo was sent to us by Max Santalucia, one of our Observers in Milan. He explains: “This is the first time I’ve seen a famous foreign brand take a stab at our politics. It’s too bad that this ad targets young people, who aren’t really big fans of Berlusconi to start with.”
Berlusconi, Italy’s former prime minister, fell from grace after a string of lawsuits against him. In September 2012, he announced that he would not take part in the February 2013 elections. However, two months ago, he changed his mind, saying too many people had asked him to run for office once again.
