New Yorkers, who had spent the past few days sweltering in temperatures of 30 degrees celcius in the shade, were taken by surprise Wednesday by a huge storm.

For just a few minutes, rain and hail poured down on the Big Apple, to the distress of women in high heels and subway drivers alike.

As they now often do when the weather goes wacky, New Yorkers whipped out their mobile phones and took photos and videos, which they promptly posted online.

Meteorologists predict more swift weather changes in New York, between heat waves and hailstorms, throughout the month of July.
