The Paris river patrol made an unusual catch in the Seine last week: a headless python. According to the police report, it measured three meters, weighed 40 kilograms and was starting to decompose.

In the latest edition of its weekly news bulletin, the city’s police raised concerns about the frequency with which Parisians threw their pets into the Seine: “This incident illustrates the sad destiny of numerous pets in this city, who are bought as babies and become burdensome to their owners as they grow up, often in cramped quarters.”
