The southern United States is hit by tornadoes every year but they are something of a rare phenomenon in France. So locals were surprised to see one hit land near Toulouse Monday night. It only lasted a few minutes, but several people managed to film it on their mobile phones.

Despite its size, the tornado caused little damage and no injuries were reported.

In this video, the people watching the tornado from a car repeatedly exclaim: “Wait, we’re not in the United States here!”

This video was filmed by our Observer Olivier Jaquemet. He says he was so surprised to see a tornado in France that he immediately snapped a photo and posted it to his Twitter account.

This video goes into fast forward mode after a few seconds. The tornado can be seen forming and disappearing again.
