A burglar caught on security camera breaking into two furniture stores in the French city of La Rochelle was arrested on October 11. An ordinary story…if it weren’t for the robber’s somewhat unorthodox methods, which have made him the laughing stock of the French Web.
On the night of June 11, a man rammed his scooter into two design and home equipment shop fronts then stepped in through the broken windows, clumsily grabbing (and dropping) the first items that came into his sight.
Video posted on Youtube by OctantDesign.
His booty included a pile of plastic salad bowls worth 14 euros each and a 1,200-euro iPod sound system – taken without the special electric cable necessary to make it work. He wore no gloves, and left prints on everything he touched. Perhaps the oddest detail of these dare-devil robberies was the little white dog that enthusiastically followed the burglar wherever he went.
Surprised and amused by the apparent randomness of the attack, the owner of the stores posted the video surveillance videos on Youtube, much to the annoyance of local police, who feared the move would hinder their investigation.
They shouldn’t have worried, though. On Monday, police arrested and charged a 25-year-old native of La Rochelle. A search of his home revealed some of the stolen items, the scooter, and the little white dog.
