Georgia residents revealed the extent of their desperation for cheaper rent on Wednesday when 30,000 people scrambled for a Sector 8 application form in the hope of receiving public housing assistance. The crowds became chaotic at points, leaving 62 injured; 20 of which were admitted to hospital.

Only 455 rent assistance vouchers and 200 public housing spaces were available, but thousands turned up nonetheless, some of them in line as of Sunday. It was the first time in eight years that the local municipality had offered to accept applications.

The scene took place at East Point near Atlanta. Video posted on YouTube by kiko2114.
