Waves reaching six to ten metres high hit the Côte d’Azur in southern France on Tuesday. The Cannes coastline and the famous Promenade des Anglais in Nice were submerged during the ordeal, leaving some 15 seafront restaurants destroyed. One person was injured after being hit by a wave. With the Cannes Film Festival set to open in just one week, local authorities in both Nice and Cannes have requested that the area be classed as a natural catastrophe zone.
