Cannes Film Festival: the hunt for a producer is on

Film stars and dazzled onlookers are not the only people crowding Cannes at festival times. The Croisette is also home to several young directors, like Cédrick Spinassou, on the lookout for a producer.

Last year, we followed Cédrick as he presented a short film at the Cannes Festival. This time, he’s back on the Croisette with a full-length feature film.

"I’m still a total unknown, so I’ll have to go and get them"

Cédrick Spinassou, 30, is an actor and film director.

Last year was my first festival, a chance to gaze around the place. I wasn’t really expecting much. I got hold of a few useful contacts, but most importantly, I came to realise that Cannes was really all about feature films.

This time I know a little better how to position myself. I’ve got two feature films to put forward: one in which I act and the other which I’m hoping to make - if I can find the money to produce it. I’ve done a 15-minute pilot film to give an idea of the spirit of the movie I’m hoping to make.

I’ve been accredited for the Short Film Corner, where I was last year. But I know this year, producers won’t come looking for me. I’m still a total unknown, so I’ll have to go and get them. I’m planning to go to the “Pavilion” and the “Village”, where film producers and distributors are to be found. I live in Paris, but it’s so much easier to meet the right people in Cannes. It’s literally swarming with people from the industry. I’m hoping to meet a dozen or so producers, but I’m not putting too much pressure on my shoulders – we’ll just have to wait and see what happens."
