Footage taken by a surveillance camera shows a police officer beating up a 15-year-old girl before dragging her by her hair into a cell.

The events date back to November 28, 2008. The teenager was arrested in Seattle under charges of theft by King County’s deputy sheriff, Paul Schene, and remanded in custody. The officer later burst into a rage after the girl threw a shoe at him.

The video was shown on February 27 during the officer’s trial and then aired on the local channel KomoNews. Despite the damning footage, Paul Schene pleaded not guilty to a fourth-degree assault charge. He claimed he had acted to prevent further offence after the girl kicked her shoe at him. The deputy sheriff is now on paid administrative leave.
