A few weeks ago Chinese webuser "24 degrees" posted this photo of a policeman chatting openly to the street traders that he was supposed to be tracking. The photo has since cost the policeman his job.

The image, entitled "the nicest municipal officer in Chongqing", was posted on the QQ.com discussion forum on September 12, and soon spread across the Chinese blogosphere. Some webusers suspected the officer of corruption but most were touched by his leniency with the traders. He was sacked on September 15. The reaction online was furious, with some webusers asking whether it's worth beating up street traders in order to keep your post. On September 17 several newspapers reported the story (i.e. here and here) - including the Hebei press agency.
