Fair & Lovely!

sir let me start off by saying what a pleasure it was that we had that discussion at the first blast the other day.
i happened to find, or rather looked for n then found!, your blogs and i must say that on a lighter(pun intended!) note, the blog about fair n lovely was close to heart.
it is the single most effective sun block that this army man's daughter has come across and i have had my fair share of skin issues in the sun.
so maybe the product shouldnt be binned just yet...
and yes fully agree that the fairness meter is complete rubbish.
maybe the advantages of the product as sunscreen need to be highlighted!more effective marketing strategy i would think!
thanks a lot,
hope to see u again,
regards,
mariam...

old acquaintances

Asalaam Aliakum,
Zaheer it's Ambreen here from the UK. I met you in Hong Kong in 1984 when I was on Holiday with Gabrielle. I've just seen you on the television about your company BITS, it eas very interesting and nice to see you after such a log time.

As you can imagine i'm much older, the mother of four children. Although I am not in full time employment, I used to work as a teacher(teaching was something you were discussing on the programme). I also worked as a freelance broadcaster for the BBC for 14 years.

I now live in a small town in the north west of Scotland.

How about yourself? How is your wife Nuzhat and from the last time I remember you had a daughter, hope they're all doing well.

I've lost touch with Gabrrielle since the last 18 years but I hear about her form mutual friends.Apparently she is working in Dubai as a Banker with Deutsche Bank. She is married with two twin daughters.

That's about all the gossip hope to hear from you, maybe, soon.

Salaams

To Ambreen

Hi Ambreen What an absolutely delightful surprise. And how odd of you to stumble upon this blog instead of my personal one. I recall Nuzhat and myself rushing off to the airport one night when you'd landed and gotten stuck there alone. Guess that was the last time we met, although I think I called you up once while I was visiting the UK. Nuzhat and Ragni are fine and both are working: Nuzhat is an Education Technology Adviser to the largest school chain in Asia (Beaconhouse School System), while Ragni is at her first job at the Drik Picture Library in Dhaka. I am involved in matters generally related to education and the new media. It'd be great to keep in occasional touch, if it's ok with you. This is not a private forum ... but there was no contact address in your reply. Mine's zakidvai@mac.com ... so the ball is now in your court. Warm regards Zaheer

Bhutto's son

Hi Zaheer,
It seems that Bhutto's son will take over. How do you explain that a 19 years old becomes the leader of the biggest Party in Pakistan. PPP is supposed to be democratic. But they act as if Pakistan is their kingdom. What do you think?

Bhutto's Son

Within a party, bad as the idea seems, I guess it's up to the leaders and the party elders to decide. The entire subcontinent (Pakistan, India, Bangladesh - and, to some extent, Sri Lanka) are extremely Dynastic in their pproach to politics. Also, the aidea, I guess, is to ride on a wave of sympathy.

And yes, they also act as kings - because the culture of the entire society is one of voluntary subservience. Phrases like Musharraf's Rule, Nawaz's Rule, and Bhutto's Rule roll off the lips of their well-wishers with as much ease as they do off heir opponents'.

And there's Benazir's mom Nusrat Bhutto's famous remark in her interview with a UK paper that Bhuttos were "born to rule"

Bonjour d'ici. Je suis

Bonjour d'ici.

conspiracy theory?

You said that many rumours around Bhutto's asassination were circulating. Do uoi really think the security services could ahave participated to the attack ? I mean, why would Musharraf agreee to have her come back, and then kill her. Doesn't make sense.

Conspiracy Theory

Rumours continue, primarily because there is a great Trust Deficit between the public and the ones who sit in power today ... and the absolutely stupid statements of government spokespersons (some of which are commented upon on my blog and elsewhere) do not help matters.

As for whether the security services could have participated ... Yes. Did they? Who knows... I have no crystal ball. But there are som many rifts within our intelligence services and among their breakaway factions that I doubt if a single true picture will ever emerge.

As for why Mush would have brought her back to kill her, I don't claim that he did that at all. But, speaking purely hypothetically, it would be a lot easier to have her eliminated under such circs (large crowd, open access, poor security, readily available suspects) than to have her knocked off in the UAE or the USA.
