Farnaz Seifi is an Iranian journalist, women rights activist and blogger. During the last 5 years, she has been actively involved in Iranian women's movement, Iran's civil society and cyber-feminism. She has worked for different dailies, magazines and also online feminist websites in Iran where she was one of the first Iranian feminist bloggers. She is also one of the founders of the "Zanestan", the first Iranian women's online magazine. She got arrested last January on her way to take part in a cyber-journalism workshop in India and charged with "acting against national security" by the authorities for her activities regarding the freedom of expression, women's issues and promoting civil society. She moved to the Netherlands in November.

Our minister Micheline Calmy-Rey
Soumis par Madeleine von Holzen (non vérifié) le mar, 18/03/2008 - 16:45.Hello Dear Farnaz Seifi,
I am journalist in Switzerland, and as you may have seen, our foreign affairs minister Micheline Calmy-Rey went to Iran yesterday and Sunday, to sign a contract with the government. She is cleary a feminist and engaged person, but she appeared with the veil. Many people are commenting today her attitude, with quite some critics. I wonder what you think of this ? What is your position about foreign ministers women in visit ? How should she have behaved ? Thank you very much for your interest and reply.

Dear Madelline: According to
Soumis par Unregistered user (non vérifié) le lun, 03/11/2008 - 11:31.Dear Madelline:
According to the laws of Iran all the women regardless of their nationality or religion must wear a headscarf in the territorities of Iran. So the foreign minister of your country can't go to Iran without a headscarf. She has no other choice, and as a minister of a country which has economic contracts with Iran, I don't think she could reject Iran and just follow her personal desires. She is a minister and representave of people of her country and she should work for benefits of her people. I am also a feminist, If i wear her i also wear the headscarf and travelled to Iran becasue its not about my own desires, but its about a country and its people's beneficiary.

dear farnaz i could not
Soumis par akram (non vérifié) le mar, 11/12/2007 - 10:09.dear farnaz
i could not watch the video about two girls in sanandaj but u know we have these days too much of these scences . everyday we come out of our home with lots of fear for ourselves & ofcourse our families.our families think every moment may happen new accident for their children because of polise & other things. in fact we live with fear not freedom.there is no freedom not in talking not in watching not in even your private life.
we just work & fright. we live under force of men's governmet. no equality no privacy nothing.
any how i wish our children would be free & feel freedom in their hearts. i desire it from my God.
best wishes
