I was brought up in Port Elizabeth in South Africa. When I was 13 I moved to England where I studied for a degree in journalism at Southampton Solent University. I now work for the BBC in London.
Hallo Danielle. I am Alberto, an italian journalist based in Milano and PR manager of Amatori Rugby Milano, the most important club of rugby here in Italy. Our coach is Marcello Cuttitta, he grew up in South Africa from an italian family, came here when he was 20 to become a legend of italian rugby. He has a twin, Massimo, same story as him, 4 world championships, barbarians, best of 100 players of the century etc...(and now coach of Edimburgh and Doncaster...an "italian" who teaches rugby to rugby inventors, thanx to his south african past). I wanted to write something about south african people who has given a great contribute to the nations where they went to live as "migrants". I wanted to write about Pistorius too, he's really well known in Milan where I live because Milano has helped him a lot in his war againts discrimination.
I were noticing that when people speak about "full of colors" culture they speak about Jew culture or New Orleans in the USA one...but few times they mention South Africa and its Melting Pot and its power.
South African sport has been banished from international competitions for several years, an embargo imposed by the international community. Many champions have left the country to represent other countries during world cups or international games. Springbox victory at the rugby World Cup, the fairy experience of Shosholoza, the South African Team in the America's Cup, are witnesses of a Reinassance of South African sport after the gloomy period.
