"Putting out the flame is really going to upset the Chinese people"

The Olympic flame had to be put out for half an hour during its tour around Paris because of havoc wreaked by mainly pro-Tibetan protesters. ChinaWolf, who set up a YouTube channel to "defend the Chinese reputation", explains to us why he thinks the protests were unacceptable.

ChinaWolf, 24, moved from China to Vancouver six years ago. He runs a YouTube site "campaigning to defend the reputation of China":

I've lived in Canada for a long time and studied political science at uni here. And I know what human rights are. I agree that it's not one of China's strong points. But the western media are manipulated by Tibetan organisations who want to manipulate China's image. There's no genocide in Tibet. That's just rubbish the Dalai Lama makes up.

I was in Beijing when we got the Olympics. There were a million people in Tiananmen Square. Everyone was so happy that our country would be organising the event. And it's an incredible opportunity economically for the nation. It's not fair to make it into a political event.

I started the YouTube channel two years ago to defend the reputation of my country. I did it at first to protest against the Japanese prime minister visiting the cemetery where we buried all their war criminals. That time it caused a massive polemic on the net, and web users got really violent. Now the same thing is happening. What's happened with the flame in London and China will only amplify anti-western sentiments in China.

The western media say that it's Chinese censorship that incites nationalism. But I think it's the opposite. It's a good thing that there is censorship because if not, Chinese people would end up getting very violent, especially against westerners. The government just wants to keep people calm. I know that the communist party is also trying to protect their reputation. But personally I find that normal. They've worked hard in the last few years and improved the economy a lot. You live a better, and cheaper, life in China today than you do in Canada."

ChinaWolf's videos: a pro China protest in London

ChinaWolf says that Western media only cover anti-Olympic Games protests and not pro-Beijing supporters, even if they're in the majority. This video was shot in London during a demonstration by pro-Games Chinese protesters.

"Chinese hero" assaults Tibetan "liar"

A video of the same demonstration published by ChinaWolf. You can see a pro-Games protesters chase and then hit a Tibetan campaigner. ChinaWolf explains why he posted this video on his site:

I'm not someone violent. But when the situation is extreme, you have to defend yourself. This guy's a Chinese hero. In Japan, England and the US there are loads of racist people, and they publish their anti-Chinese propaganda on YouTube. This type of video is my way of getting back at them."

Beijing is an ugly place, it's really polluted and obviously, China is really oppressive. China has the Olympic games because of politics, so that they would hate Westerners so much and so that they might improve human rights. However, the Olympics seem in some ways to actually make human rights worse, and although they have made some improvements since getting the Olympics, it is likley that they will not last. China really should NOT have the Olympics and that is why the media reports it in that way. It doesn't matter wether or not the majority Chinese people really want it or not. There are actually more important things. They might want it, but they shouldn't have it!
The pro-Olympics Chinese majority are like that because they are brain-washed. The Western media might only show the anti-Olympics protestors but the Chinse media is much more one-sided (so why should they complain?).
That person is MAD.

My maternal grandfather is Chinese from Canton. He left the country in his youth because of poverty. China has not changed much since the ancient time. China does and will never know what democracy is all about. China and the Chinese are themselves very racist. They think that they are superior that most other Asians. You go to any other country in Asia and they tend to look down upon the other people. Did you ever wonder why they were[Chinese] were much hated in Indonesia, and Malaysia? Taiwan is another question. Most Taiwanese would rather be labelled as Taiwanese than Chinese. So Chinawolf wake up and see your country for what it is. China will never rule or have a great influence to the world like any of the Western countries because it does not know how to respect human rights. The ruling Chinese elite in Beijing considers most Chinese commoners' lives as expendable; Cheap. What more can I say.

Local Chinese people were being hated there not because they look down at other Asian people in those countries but because they are managing the main wealth from local society through their non-stop hard working!!!

The Dalai Lama is talking about the genocide of the past 50 years, not just the past 50 days. You can't deny that there has been genocide in China! It isn't just the Tibetans, of course -- lots of others were killed, and it isn't just China -- lots of countries have genocide in their history. The difference is that Tibetans did and do have a markedly different culture that has been dismantled and decimated. I won't argue that it's anyone's duty to preserve other cultures, but it does explain why they're so upset.

World does not hate China! I am french and I live in south-east asia. I regret that sometimes french people/politicians/media are a bit narrow-minded and arrogant. France is a Democracy but french Media only spread the demagogue thought. And in order to maintain their popularity, politicians and sportsmen have to follow this thought. There is no space for any opposition except for denigration. That's a pity in a country like France which claims for Democracy and Human Rights.

Let me say clearly why the West hate so much China. Because it fears China. China will dominate the world for the next millenium. The arrogant european and american who were so used to steal other nations will at last see what it means to be on the wrong side of the planet. China will make the rules and restore order in the world. It was already a great civilization when westerners were still eating roots. Don't forget that we are here to defend our value, not to make more trouble. WE LOVE PEACE and respect all the cultures around the world. We are not going to dominate the world.

If there is something we did wrong to the Tibetans we should apology for that. I think everybody know Tibetean have their value to defend. (They are not Han). So let ask ourselve that is there anything we did offend the Tibetans but we don't know. (sometimes, something that we do, according to Han value standard, is no problem but to our people that is a hugh offence. Remember what the West called us? (Pigtail).

Well Olympic Games are a creation of Greece, in the West, resurrected by France in the West, and its charter written according to European western values capitalism and communism as well as the song called the "Internationale" are creations of the Western thinkers and artists, so you should not be communist, nor capitalists (maybe just confucianist and subject of the emperor) and you should refrain from slavishly following the Western World. Also you should not have applied for the Olympic Games. Your comments show your lack of judgment and the fact that you are not well read and acquainted with the broader world. Too much nationalism and chauvinistim is just showing that your brain has not developped yet to full maturity. It's ok, like Pavlov's dogs, you cannot be held responsible for your words and actions, since like the former you have well conditionned.

How can we listen to a man a who considers that a guy who beats up a tibetan at a protest in London is a hero? And a man who believes that censorship is ok because it's in the interest of people... Mr "wolf", do you realize that you enjoy in Canada a freedom that is denied to your fellow citizens? How about the riots on Thursday 27 October 2005, triggered by the deaths of two teenagers in Clichy-sous-Bois, a poor commune in an eastern banlieue (suburb) of Paris? yeah, those rioters also had grievances as economically disadvantaged minorities. Did Mr. Sarkozy, or for that matter, the French people, gave those thugs a license to kill? Use your head, people.
