About me :

Meema Spadola is an independent documentary maker, writer, knitter and postpartum doula living in Brooklyn, NY with her husband and son. (She is also the daughter of a lesbian mom and straight dad, both re-partnered after separating in 1980.)
Meema has produced documentaries for PBS, HBO, Cinemax, Sundance Channel and NPR. Past work includes the PBS documentary OUR HOUSE: A VERY REAL DOCUMENTARY ABOUT KIDS OF GAY & LESBIAN PARENTS, which profiles the sons and daughters in five diverse families (some of whom are included in Families Like Mine). OUR HOUSE received Best Documentary jury awards at both the Los Angeles and New York Lesbian & Gay Film Festivals and is now available on DVD from First Run Features (complete with updates from the families).
Meema’s radio documentaries have appeared on Public Radio’s This American Life. She is the author of Breasts: Our Most Public Private Parts (Wildcat Canyon Press), based on her award-winning HBO documentary BREASTS, and a contributor to Out of the Ordinary (St. Martin’s Press), and anthology by sons and daughters with LGBT parents. Meema’s knitting patterns appear in Stitch n’ Bitch (Workman Press), and the magazine, Interweave Knits.
Meema grew up in Searsmont, Maine and graduated from Sarah Lawrence College.
