About me :
Ahmad Sherif is an Egyptian artist who has joined the Egyptian blogosphere in December 2006. Producing videos, songs, articles, viral graphics, on line happenings and events, he has also explored the making of mobile phone videos, so that his work may reach an Egyptian population unable to connect to the Internet.
His art work conveys a harsh yet humorous criticism of the Mubarak Regime. It also explores issues involving freedom of speech, faith, women and relations between men and women.
His most notable on line art performances were "President Mubarak, You've got mail" (March 2007), involving Egyptians all around the World who could address their personal messages to the Egyptian head of state. The "Happy Birthday Campaign" performance (May 2007) came under the form of a viral video brodcasted on the Web, on President' Mubarak 79th birthday. This video was then broadcasted in extenso on BBC World. In June 2007 his video "I am not Ikhwan" triggered a lively debate on the Muslim Brotherhood blog "Ana Ikhwan", animated by the Islamist journalist and blogger Abdel Moneim Mahmoud.
Since June 2007 his work has been focusing on understanding the reality of the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood, its socio-political agenda, its ties and sympathies with radical Islamist organizations (Hamas, Hezbollah, Qaeda) and, finally, its use of new media.
