BMX in Blue

France's Anne-Caroline Chausson and Laetitia Le Corguillé clinched the gold and silver medals in BMX, which made its debut in Beijing.

In the last curve of the Laoshan circuit, Anne-Caroline Chausson was nearly knocked over by double world champion Brit Shanaze Reade, who eventually fell, leaving the road open for Laetitia Le Corguillé to take the silver medal.

The men were not as lucky. Damien Godet bit the dust in the final, which he never finished. Thomas Allier ended in the quarter final.

To the staff of the French team, the women's wins provided immense satisfaction - especially for Fabrice Vettoretti, France's BMX coach.

"I am proud of the whole team"

Fabrice Vettoretti, France's BMX coach, gives his comments a few minutes after the women's victory.

Before starting the competition, [Anne-Caroline Chausson] was mentally ready and focused. She really wanted to do well in this race. She felt very strong.

The fall of Brit [Shanaze Reade] helped but did not decide the final result. She totally deserved her victory. Laetitia [Le Corguillé] takes the silver. It is just brilliant.

Here, we are just enjoying the moment but we still believe it! We will get some rest and see what's next.

I am so satisfied. As the general coach, I am proud of my staff and the team as whole. It is thanks to them we won those medals.

It is a bit disappointing for the boys. Damien [Godet] was mentally ready for the final. He falls in the final run but he is not affected as much as Thomas [Allier] who was physically on top but not psychologically. He is the most disappointed of the lot.
