A far from Catholic calendar

A Madrilenian LGBT group has just published what it describes as a "non-religious" calendar. Quite. The images enclosed have caused something of a controversy in Spain, where 79% of the population consider themselves Catholic.

The church and its whimpering disciples have labelled the pictures "christophobic" and a direct attack on the institution. Mission accomplished for Cogam, the group behind the calendar, who knowingly brought attention to themselves by calling the calendar non-religious - a dirty word for some in Spain. It's not surprising that an image of the Virgin Mary posed by a transsexual didn't go down too well either.

Right-wing online forum "Forum Libertas" asked "Would this happen to Buddha or Mohammed? With this supposedly non-religious calendar, Cogam is aiming straight for the Catholic Church, its only goal to ridicule the most practised religion in Spain." Another conservative blog, Religión en Libertad, went even further by demanding an immediate cut to state funding for the homosexual community in Madrid.

Are you trying to suggest that Homosexuals, bisexuals, and transexuals are incarnations of evil? That they exist to mock God, just as you claim the Devil does? Contrary to what you say, much of the bible preaches that the Devil acts in God's will even though "he" attempts to oppose Him.

The endless use and abuse of the word 'offend-offended' is both boring and dreary. It smacks of self righteousness and laziness as it implies the writer is too dim witted to reach for an alternative word. Just for skits, try, why don't you, and see how sanctimonious the use of that 'all-inclusive' word really is?

"break some boundaries"..!? and which boundaries might those be, i know the world is crazy but this kind of things just make it look hopeless even more, seriously no matter how deep or critical thinking is being projected on this calendar and pictures, way too much shocking it is i find it absolutely unappealing and do not see how this is suppose to be sending a strong message even for a person of my caliber well aware of the degrading world we live in.

I can hardly see anyone gay submitting to a religion like Islam whose Sharia law preaches the death of homosexuals.

Wasn't it a Pope who said "This myth of Christ has served us well?" History is full of incidents of the Catholic Church and it's priests behaving badly. The Bible says that sodomy is a sin yet numerous Catholic priests have been proven to have committed this sin on young boys (and girls). Murder is a sin yet the Inquisition tortured and murdered (butchered) in as many gruesome ways as imaginable and more. The human form is stated in the Bible as being beautiful and, if God created Adam & Eve, what is wrong with a few photographs of half dressed women? I see a strong similarity between the reaction of a few bigots in the Catholic religion to that of the Muslims to the Danish cartoons and Salman Rushdie's boring tome. What ever happened to religious tolerance, forgiveness and the true meaning of Christianity? It got usurped by men in dresses who worship craven idols and images - another sin. I am a Christian - and that means I accept all people as they are, full of faults. Isn't that what Catholics are supposed to do?

I don't know if there is any corruption in other areas but my Catholic Church has been nothing but good to me. I have been supported in times when I've needed help and I've helped others also. These people are my family. I think that anyone would be upset if their family was attacked. Try to remember that large groups are made up of individuals and that there can be corruption anywhere without the entire group being bad.

I am Catholic. I may not be the best Catholic on the planet but I am still a Catholic and I am insulted by these pictures. The pictures are imitations of images that are very special to me.

I do not condemn people with different lifestyles from mine and I try my best not to be rude or offend other people. I believe God loves all people. I know that there are many in the LGBT community who are persecuted and I am sorry for that. But am I a bad person that needs to persecuted in return? Why is it so terrible for people to make fun of and put down alternate lifestyles but just fine for the people living those lifestyles to turn around and do the same to me? Is this really the way to get people to accept differences? Is it really going to make anything better? If we want to get past intolerance we need to learn to work together and respect our differences, not intentionally push each other's buttons.

I agree. I am a muslim myself and this offends me let alone you. Histories are the same throughout religions. Therefore the same way I diont like my religion to be commented on/changed/caught attention, I wish the same respect towards all other religions.

From the few photos shown here, I am surprised that there is not more of a positive reflection. while some find it aimed at Christianity or Catholicism, I find it pertains to a much broader spectrum. I do believe that it makes one think, maybe even if it is a jest at modern society and their naive/narrow belief system. Truly unique and thought provoking..Kudos to you..

Er...not sure what relevance this has. Are you saying that anyone who 'seeks publicity' is attempting to 'justify their unnatural practices'? So...why's the Pope on TV sometimes? And are all LGBT people perverts? What are they perverting? Catholicism's idea of 'natural' sex? And 'pederasts'? So all LGBT people desire illicit sex with boys...? The only 'unnatural' part of this is a reaction such as yours.
