China’s "most awesome" building

This building in the city of Wuhan has been dubbed the “most awesome” in the country by Chinese Web users. The voters were being ironic, as the student dorms it houses are probably one of the most dangerous places to live in all of China: their windows are just inches away from a high voltage electric pylon.

Blogger Weng Haofeng, went to visit the infamous five-story building at the start of the school year. He brings us this account.

"The building is occupied by students and migrant workers"

Weng Haofeng lives in Wuhan, China, where he writes the blog Weng Hao Feng Focus.

Residents told me that this so-called “awesome building” was built next to the high-voltage pylon in 2007 and all of its inhabitants are deeply worried about safety. When construction began, complaints were filed, and the authorities sent inspectors to examine the site. In the end, however, the building was still completed. People have only recently begun to move in. It mainly houses migrant workers and students." Students represent the future of our nation and migrant workers are its backbone, and yet they live in such dangerous conditions! Who will take responsibility if something were to happen here? "

So Dangerous

I can't believe the authorities approved the construction of such a building! Are they waiting for a tragedy to strike so that they can have a change of plans? They should realize the hazards of this, a small short circuit has a chance to claim lives and this is a whole pylon we are talking about. Even if one transformer blows up, God knows what will happen.

Why live there?

Is someone forcing people to live there? Will people be sent to jail if they refuse to live there? The electric tower was there first, the people came later. If some people think it’s so dangerous, why live there? This article and this issue seems really stupid to me.
