Our Observer Alberto Celani
alerted us to this PR campaign from Italian hunting association Federcaccia.
Not everyone is delighted with the idea - should we be encouraging children to hunt,
and even worse, use guns?

I'm not sure how to feel about it or hunting in general for that matter. Hunting seems old-fashion to me, we are lucky enough not to need it any more to eat and we have other ways to have fun, exercise or practice our dexterity / reflexes. I just don't see any reason why hunting still exists. I hope that this tradition will end with my generation (I'm 25). I remember my uncle hunting every sunday during hunting season: it was a mere excuse to walk around in the fields with his dog, to enjoy being alone in the countryside at early hours and to watch the colors of fall. He sometimes brought a hare but he most often came back empty handed
However, if it has to last, then I agree: one has to teach hunting and its rules. It's the kind of knowledge that runs in a family and should be taught "from father / uncle to son / nephew". Hunting is not so much for food but for the values it conveys: patience, dexterity, respect of nature (which has nowadays come to be a paradox but I'm getting off-subject).
All this said, those adds are not shocking. They are well done and perfect for a right wing parti :) they convey a feeling of peace and quiet. the second shows the kid having a family time with his Dad and they both look happy. The first one is not so positive as the kid is alone with the weapon and he looks ready to go war... His age though clearly shows there is no violence and it's all for "leisure" (the whistle adds to the "game" feeling).
Tough to judge, it's a good campaign: it raises interesting questions.
