A group of Chechen and Ingush youths tore through the streets of Moscow on Saturday in a show of patriotism for their respective motherlands. But the bling bling affair, complete with flashy cars, gunshots and speeding, came to a sorry end when the parade obstructed a police car a few hours into their stint. Nineteen were charged with disorderly conduct.

The event, now in its second year, is called the Vainakh rally, Vainakh being the common term for people from both the Chechen and Ingush regions. About 100 participants in 50 high-speed cars took to the streets waving regional flags. Despite firing gunshots and going well over the speed limit, the event was at first ignored by the police, as usual. Event organisers did attempt to contain the excitement by advising speeds of under 60km and no firing of guns. But nobody listened. That's not however, what the general public considers the problem. The group went about the same business last year, only on that occasion, they didn't come face to face with a police car... and coincidentally, nobody was arrested.
The organisers of the event have apologised for the disorder, and promised another rally later in the year - this time with no speeding and shooting. In the meantime, participants can brush up their skills on a flash game posted on various Vainakh websites yesterday. In the game, the player's level of patriotism rises depending on how well he manages to slalom between police cars on Moscow's roads...
