Everyone has something to regret. Something you've done or not done, said or not said. Something, that might have changed your life. A friend you never admitted you liked, a boss you never smacked in the face, a trip you'll never be able to take again... Tell us what your biggest regret is.
After seeing this short movie, we decided to pass the question on to our readers. The guy in the film at least, can cross one potential regret off his list.
"Signs" is a project from Australian director Patrick Hughes. The piece will be presented at the Schweppes Short Film Festival.

Submitted by Tahir Imran Mian (not verified) on Wed, 11/03/2009 - 20:29.I applied for a job at France24 as a journalist and came all he way to give my interview on my own expense and then I met their HR person who could not speak English and my French was not that good either. So we resorted to Arabic but during the interview I found myself dragging her to Arabic and English and she focussed all her efforts on French. You can guess what would be the outcome. I was turned down, I wish I can tell them that the adverts they placed in Guardian should be clearly saying they need people who must speak French. I have proof of their adverts which clearly say that they need English journalist. When I pressed hard and approached their director of news Gerard Saint Paul his PA never gave in any ground. I approached the CEO Alain De Puozilac and his PA also never gave way. I wish I can ever see them and tell them how insulting, hypocritical I found them and their whole team my experience put me off from ever seeing or thinking about it. I wish I could have told at the first place that I cannot continue this interview I need an English speaker because I am applying for that.

Regret of wasting my most valuable wealth
Submitted by daanial on Wed, 11/03/2009 - 13:23.When i was younger, i was thinking that i never have regret of not saying "I like you" or "I love you" to the people who i liked. its regret for many hard-working, uptight people that sometimes they think its much better to not say, to not express all of our emotions and when they want to do that its too late.
its why, when i was younger i decided to say, all the time to people i like that: hey! i like you! regardless of sex, regardless of age...
and now: when i am looking back, i think i was wrong, i was wrong with care about people who didnt care about me, i was wrong with showing kindness to everybody.
maybe all people dont deserve your smile.
maybe all of them dont deserve your pure emotions
and maybe
maybe
i am getting old...

different kinds of regrets
Submitted by ross (not verified) on Wed, 11/03/2009 - 13:15.There are regrets from missed opportunities, and regrets from doing stupid things (sins of omission, and sins of commission).
I regret not trying to get American citizenship when I was married to an American for 7 years. I regret not finishing graduate school. Mostly, I regret several missed opportunities with some very willing girls.
I regret stupidly hurting a friend in a very intimate way, that broke off our friendship (and I don't know what happened to her, and haven't been able to find out - I fear it drove her over the edge).

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Wed, 11/03/2009 - 00:57.I used to be friends with a girl who I was infatuated with. I never told her how I felt. I was walking down the street with my girlfriend about a week ago and I saw her for the first time in years. The funny thing was... I still felt the same way and I was too embarrassed to stop and talk with her so, I ignored her!
I often think about how happy or how sad I would have been with her. Well, I'll never know. That, as big a cliche as it is, is my biggest regret.

Submitted by Sara sara (not verified) on Tue, 10/03/2009 - 19:32.I really regret not giving my cat a proper goodbye when I moved out of my family home. Since then, it doesn’t even recognise me when I visit my parents. I’m sure it’s harbouring feelings because I didn’t give it a kiss goodbye.

Cats
Submitted by Bill Nelson (not verified) on Wed, 11/03/2009 - 09:06.Cats live with their owner under their terms. They are independent and selfish animals. However they are genetically engineered killers. Perfect for they job they do to perfection. Every cat is a thoroughbred. You can teach them nothing. If their coolness could be measured it would reach 0 deg Absolute (-253 deg C). They are superb hunters. They will take a rat almost the same size as them without incurring a scratch themselves. A neat trick Non? Nobody ever taught them to kill, kittens dont stay with their mother long enough to learn. They are programmed genetically and the strain has never weakened. With all these plusses in the cats' favour it's no wonder they treat us dispassionately. Guilt, on your part, is a wasted emotion. Forget it and move on. If you want unconditional loyalty get a dog, they will lick you to death and never forget you. but they can't kill like a cat!

One of my most stupid
Submitted by john t (not verified) on Tue, 10/03/2009 - 18:58.One of my most stupid regrets is not going into the best hairdresser in town when I was a teenager. I didn’t think I was cool enough for the people there and loitered around it various Saturdays, cash in hand (saved up from my paper round) but never stepped inside. I’d always end up back at the same barbershop my dad got his hair cut in round the corner from our house. And because of that I didn’t dare to ask out the girl I liked because I didn’t think my hair was cool enough. It might seem ridiculous in hindsight, but at the time it seemed to be of great importance.

Too scared for job interview
Submitted by Anthony (not verified) on Tue, 10/03/2009 - 18:38.My biggest regret would definitely have to be not having had enough courage to go to a job interview I got when I was twenty. I was so nervous I just didn’t turn up. Now I’m still working in a job I hate twenty years later; when I could be anywhere now.
