Is Palin ready to take on Biden - or the vice presidency?

palin-m.jpg

Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin's flustered performance on foreign policy and the economy during an interview with CBS news anchor Katie Couric this week has drawn mixed reactions from our Observers. Some of them wonder if John McCain's running mate is ready for Thursday night’s debate with Democratic vice presidential candidate Senator Joe Biden. Others say her poor showing on the airwaves betrays a liberal media bias and they insist she’s ready for the job at the White House

Palin's 'argle-bargle'

Sarah Palin’s interview on CBS was APPALLING.

I was shocked at her lack of knowledge about current affairs that you can read about if you just pick up a newspaper. Her biggest gaffe was her “argle-bargle” about Russia coming to Alaska. Believe me, if the Russian’s are coming, they are going to Georgia or invading Europe, not Alaska.

She's probably ready for tomorrow night's debate but only with her stock-in-trade pit-bull stuff. She CAN’T match Joe Biden on details. So I think she’s going to play the enthusiasm broad-message card, and Biden will give factual answers.

They are both straight speakers, this debate should be very interesting.

Is she ready to be vice president? Not in a heartbeat, which is important, because that’s how far she will be from the presidency. She’s an idiot and a reactionary who wants to “Christianize” this secular country.

She should really sit down and read the Constitution, because there’s going to be a pop quiz in November."

'Palin has the character - she just needs to learn the names'

Watching the interview I was reminded of a conversation I had in my cab once.

After the fifth or so extremely stupid question, I turned around and said to my passenger: “You know I’m more than willing to have a conversation, but you’re going to have to ask me something intelligent.”

Case in point - Katie Couric: “What specifically in your view could be done to convince the new government in Pakistan to take a harder, tougher line against terrorists in that country?"

If I'd answered: "Gee Katie, outside of calling out the Pakistani Army and Air Force to invade their own tribal regions, utilising Pakistani intelligence assets on the ground to guide US missile strikes, capturing the head of Al Qaeda in Karachi – in short – fighting a massive bloody civil war, I really don’t know."

Its real easy to blame the person being interviewed for coming off bad in an interview if you’re also willing to blame a woman for getting raped because of the revealing clothes she was wearing when she was attacked.

Governor Sarah Palin doesn’t have the luxury of losing her temper with these leftist twits, and boy are they going to take advantage.

Wow, I still like that one. I gather there was also some stupid grilling on McCain's record that Governor Palin had trouble with, but as somebody here pointed out: Nobody ever sat Al Gore down on CBS back in 1992 and grilled him on the regulatory record of the governor of Arkansas, William Clinton.

The straight media's in the bag for Obama and they're pulling out all the stops. A lot of us are waiting (Hell, we can't wait) for Governor Palin to lose her temper. She's earned it, and her millions of fans have already lost theirs.

Palin has the character - all she has to do is learn the names. Obama has no character so who gives a f*** if he can memorize names?"

'Failin' Palin'

Linda Sharp, parenting writer, Austin, Texas (independent)

Sarah Palin once again fumbled in spectacular fashion.

Unable to answer even the simplest of queries, it's evident that despite how many catchphrases the campaign has stuffed her with, regardless of how many Cliffs Notes on world events she has read, her mental Cuisinart still manages to produce only a puree of gibberish when she speaks.

Sarah called herself a "Joe Six-Pack American" yesterday during a radio interview. Linda Sharp put together this Cheers spoof on her blog.

Palin also sat with McCain as Katie Couric asked them both to clarify her statement about going into Pakistan (when asked by a voter at a photo op stop for cheesesteak in Philadelphia). Her statement to the gentleman asking the question was in direct opposition of the stance John McCain has taken.

McCain jumped on Couric and called the question in Philadelphia "gotcha journalism".

You know, I'm really tired of the GOP excuses for Failin' Palin: "elitist media", "gotcha journalism", "sexism". An interviewer asking a straightforward question and expecting a decent, coherent answer in return is not unreasonable.

Sarah Palin has not been asked anything she shouldn't be able to answer IF SHE WERE QUALIFIED. She's NOT. And a voter asking a question? GASP! Sarah, John: WE are the people you are accountable to.

WE are the ones who will vote based on your answers. And right now, the only real answers we have are

1.) John McCain, you are a pandering old fool who proves there should not only be an age requirement on the front end to run for president, but a cap on the rear end as well.

and 2.) Sarah Palin is woefully uneducated, uninformed and completely out of her league. Her presence on the Republican ticket is an affront to every voter in this country."

Believe me, educated

Believe me, educated American voters are as disgusted by Palin as anyone watching this election from the outside. Her candidacy is an insult to women in politics and her ignorance is inexcusable. I sincerely hope that average American voters can see through the catchphrases and ridiculous and incoherent answers she's delivered every time she does not know the answer to a question she should know.
