It has been such a long time since Spain reached the semi-finals of the European Nations Championship. That last time was back in 1984. The tournament took place in France and Spain beat Denmark to get to the finals, where they lost against Michel Platini's Bleus.
Sunday's victory against Italy marks the return of the Spanish in the semi finals and lifts a 24-year-old curse that weighed heavily on an entire nation.
Elena Franco sent us her thoughts after Italy's elimination...
Tonight Italy was kicked out of Euro 2008 by Spain. And it seemed, again, that Donadoni did not do his best in this game. The match left people thinking the formation was there just to play, and not to win, and at the beginning, it also seemed we were not able to keep the ball.
The second half was slightly better, but many people thought we deserved to lose the match.
What now?
Well, let's hope Spain will "take care" of Russia."
