Russia qualified for the quarter finals by finishing second in Group D thanks to a 2-0 win over Sweden. They will face the Netherlands in the next round. Yuri Semin, actual Dynamo Kiev manager and former Russian selection coach gives his impression.
You could only appreciate the way our team played yesterday. We were better than the Swedes at every level of the game. It's great that after the first game with Spain, corrections were made in our defense tactics. In the two last games our defense played really well. Thanks to good speed and control of the ball, our team maintained Sweden out of the game; our ball possession was rather impressive. And, more importantly, this ball possession was directed forward, toward the goals.
Their victory is well deserved, and we'll rightfully play in the quarterfinal against the Netherlands. Of course, they are the favorites in the next game. But I always say that before the game, chances to win for each team are fifty-fifty.
