Basel's skies are grey and it's cold and rainy - will Switzerland have to play its last match against Portugal under the same sort of downpour that flattened it's last game against Turkey?
Despite this being very much a match for honour rather than glory, Swiss fans seem to have multiplied the flags draped from windows and balconies - perhaps to spur their team on to a good performance tonight. There's definitely a feeling of what could have been amongst fans here. "We weren't so much bad against Turkey, as unlucky" one fan who was at that game told me.
Many swiss fans let themselves think that portugal might relax as they have already qualified but there is really no chance that Switzerland will get through to the second round.
If optimism is in short supply here in northwest Switzerland then one thing there is plenty of is very good quality fast food. From ten kind of sausages to special swiss doughnuts there are kiosks set up all over town. Perhaps there are even too many, or perhaps it's swiss efficiency, the queues are never very long, even when hundreds of fans descend upon them."

Portugal should be playing with a different team today, we're already in the quarters and there's no need to push the regular players and at the same time, the others get the opportunity to show their value.
That will probably be the case for Croatia, the Netherlands and Spain as well.
People don't seem to be too worried with this match, everyone is already thinking about the next match and who we're playing against.
It will be a nice game, both teams don't need to win as it won't make a big difference to either of them, but Portugal wants to go to the next stage with the 9 points and Switzerland wants to say goodbye to the Championship and their coach in the best way possible."
