According to recent estimates, the earthquake that hit China on Monday could leave 10,000 people dead. Web users are saying that the catastrophe could have been avoided, if only they had listened to the toads.
Two days before the quake thousands of toads suddenly decided to move across a bridge in Taizhou, a town in the Jiangsu province (see photos). Chinese web users are wondering why the local authorities didn't relate the event to the imminence of an earthquake, and why scientists didn't take notice of the bizarre disappearance of a lake in Enshi, in the Hubei province, on April 26 (see photos).
A seismologist tells us that the Chinese have long relied on the behaviour of animals to predict earthquakes. Although there's no scientific study to back up the farmers' claims, the idea that toads sensed the earthquake should not be ruled out.
Pascal Bernard is a researcher in a team of seismologists at the Jussieu University in Paris.
Although
it's difficult to prove that toads "predicted" the quake, it's certainly not
impossible. We know that animals sense pre-earthquake micro-tremors, and react
to underground water movements, or even changes in the composition of the air.
It's just that these theories haven't been scientifically proven yet.
China has a long tradition of seismology studies based particularly on looking at the behaviour of rats, snakes, toads etc. The idea was very fashionable in the 70s [when scientific researchers were ousted in the cultural revolution]. Farmers very carefully noted down all the different kinds of behaviour of animals in the hope of predicting natural catastrophes. But in my experience it never really worked. In 1975, villagers did manage to predict an earthquake and avoid catastrophe. But it was because they felt the mini-tremors, not because of something they noticed in the animals."

Animal Behavior Predicting Earthquakes

There is no such thing as "erratic animal behavior". It's just that humans do not understand it. Animals are much more in tune with nature than humans are. Before the cyclone in Myanmar, a certain species of birds headed for high ground.

Animal Perceptions
Submitted by Anonyme (not verified) on Fri, 30/05/2008 - 11:24.Absolutely right. I was in an earthquake once -Cyprus 1954. Quite a few people were killed in the village of Ktima near Paphos on the SW coast. It happened 6am.
Interestingly there was no dawn chorus at this time, no dogs barking. I was staying in the Troodos mountains and the normal early morning cacophony was totally absent. Mountains in Lebanon could be seen over 120 miles away.
Unbelievable visibility. The seas off Kyrenia were as rough as guts for three days before the quake, yet there was no or little wind.
More research is needed. Maybe some super-sensitive listening devices set up in earthquake prone zones to record and analyse the sounds deep within the earth..

South East Asian tsunami / Animal behaviour also predicted quake
Submitted by Casanova (not verified) on Sun, 18/05/2008 - 10:01.On an immediate interval yes, but it is changing (the electromagnetic properties of the silicon crystals) after the load has started to unravel within the crust.
I have noticed animals indeed have an ability to read the environment and predict disasters well before they occur.
In the South-East Asian tsunami, caused by an eartquake, off the coasts of Sumatra and Thailand, there was a similar occurrence of animals fleeing potentially dangerous areas a short period before the quake and the destructive wave.
When the local nomads and pastoral people were interwieved, they had told they had evacuated themselves from the coastal areas due to animal behaviour.

Submitted by eccentricone (not verified) on Mon, 19/05/2008 - 06:50.You mention the plagues of Exodus but I would refer you more to the New Testament. You may think that people like me saying the end is TRULY near is some big laughing stock joke but one of the signs of Jesus soon return is Earthquakes in diverse places. Which is a direct quote from Matthew 24 verse 7 which is when Jesus was telling his disciples what people should be looking for before his second coming. It also mentions that it will be as in the days of Noah. Well what happened during Noahs experience?? The entire Earth was destroyed. Don't let false Sheperds decieve you there is nothing in the bible about a secret rapture and a third coming. When he returns the world ends PERIOD. So be ready READ YOUR Bible and God will show you the true path.

We can be shure that such a mighty change is related to devastation, probably the whole nature will be changed dramatically.
Possibly the "Stormglas from Admiral Fitzroy" may not only show weather changes (like upcoming storms), I think a earthquake will be shown as a coming strong storm. Here is an link to the "Stormglas", in german language:

Earthquake Precursors
Submitted by Charking (not verified) on Thu, 15/05/2008 - 05:51.I firmly believe that the toads could have been sounding a warning for the 7.9 quake on Monday May 12th 2008.
I have been observing animals and insects for 30+ years and use them as a back up to my own biological reactions for Earthquake predictions.
If you are sensitive, the main thing you will feel with China is LEFT EARACHE and some crackling sounds like cellophane in the same ear. The animals and insects, especially ants cats, and birds are able to sense these events 12-24 hours before they happen.
I live in Oregon, in the USA and my one of my cats, hid under the bed all day, he has never done that before in 6+ years. I also had a major ant invasion a couple of days before the quake. Birds, especially pigeons have dificulty flying before major quakes and volcanic eruptions.
Anchovies jump up out of the water as do catfish.
Whales often beach themselves
Bears are watched in parts of Russia to warn of impending quakes and volcanic eruptions.
Based on my research, which by the way was taken seriously by the US Government with a volunteer study called " Projet Migraine " for the main symptoms that were constant before the major eruption of Mt St Helens in 1980.
In the past, the largest or one of the largest A/S of the quake will bit in 12-72 hours + or - 12 hours.. this means there is a POSSIBILITY that there could be a larger Aftershock of the China quake between 4 PM the 15th and 4 AM on the 16th of May. These are the time lines and are 87% accurate.
I can feel, hear and predict earthquakes before they happen, I am not alone in this, so if we the highest form of animal can do this, why can't the Toads do the same?
So YES I believe it is very possible that the TOADS were trying to sound the alarm.
Watch the animals, insects and changes in levels of well water.. over flowing or dropping suddenly can be a precursor as well.
My prayers are with China.
Charking.

Earthquake precursors
Submitted by Lenky (not verified) on Fri, 16/05/2008 - 07:50.There was a report on CNN (US) yesterday (5/15) about a large "invasion" of frogs in part of Bakersfield, Cal. Apparently hundreds of thousands of frogs have left their normal area and are spreading out through the surrounding residential district. Apparently such an event on this scale is unknown in this are. The video can be accessed at:
http://edition.cnn.com/video/#/video/us/2008/05/15/calahan.frog.invasion...
I hope this is not a precursor to a major seismic event but all the same it is worth noting.

All of Califonia moves around, but the frogs are something different and people who monitor quakes need to pay attention. If I lived there it might be a very good week end to go visit someone in Nevada.
