A not-so-sweet victory in Ghana

Our Observers in Accra update us on events in Accra before and after the game against Namibia.

"Ghana thought that the match with Namibia would be a walkover"

Charles, our Observer in Ghana, documented pre-match events in Accra in video and pictures:

Most people in Ghana thought that the match with Namibia would be a walkover. You could tell just from the way people went to the stadium. But it wasn't the case. The Namibians came out and played a very tactical game to frustrate the Ghanaians from walloping them as Morocco did in their first game. Ghana had all the possession but lacked the ability to put the ball in the back of the Namibian net. Namibia deserves credit for holding their own against the hosts as they played a determined game. In the end it was Junior Agogo's goal that separated the two sides.

After the match the street cleared quickly because nobody was in the mood to celebrate. People were venting their anger on Asamoah Gyan for being so wasteful in front of the goal. It was an average performance indeed from the Black Stars; confirming the fact that the absence of Skipper Stephen Appiah is affecting the team. But Ghana can take consolation in the fact that she has six points from two games and a point from Morocco in the last game, which isn't a bad score.

There were interesting scenes before the match. Just check this video out!"

"The night was dull and everyone went to bed"

Commentary from our Observer in Accra, Henry Addo:

The match ended 1:0 in favour of Ghana. Even though they won, a lot of people were very disappointed because they were expecting more. They were expecting to beat their Namibian counterparts by a slew of goals.

There were no cheers and chants of jubilation everywhere like after the first match. This time, almost everyone was just moaning about the team's poor performance, especially about Asamoah Gyan because he had loads of chances but just wasted them. The night was dull and everyone went to bed. Everywhere was quiet."
