Yes, the times are gone when e.g. the EU made a big point of human right issues in the 2nd and 3rd world. It did in fact not quite help a lot of people, I'm afraid.
President Sarkozy has embraced a clearer form of international power politics, very much inspired by the USA (who are in decline right now, never mind).
So he gives all his energy to the formation of a united islamic middle east with Turkey in it, so that Europe remains a white christian block.
This means of course, appeasing all countries involved.
Sorry, it's just the way it is right now. And it is not going to be different for a long time to come.
