Climate marches were held in many cities in France on Saturday, September 8. If you were to believe one photo that was circulated on social media, you might think that participants in Paris didn’t behave very ecologically and left tonnes of trash in the streets.

Posted on September 9, the photo has been shared more than 1,600 times.

It was also circulated widely on Twitter, and replies ranged from sarcastic to outraged, like “Bravo, ecologists” and “Do what I say, not what I do”.

Did climate march participants leave piles of trash in the streets of Paris?

Before you share a photo you see online, remember to do a reverse image search (click here to learn how) with a search engine like Google or Yandex.

In this case, doing a reverse image search shows that this photo was actually taken during the Paris marathon way back in April 2007. It was published on this blog.
