It may have seemed like a good idea at the time. Chinese authorities suspended highway tolls over the holiday weekend, but they didn’t quite expect quite so many people to take them up on the offer
. State media reports
that 85 million Chinese – 13 percent more than last year – hit the roads on Sunday, causing gigantic traffic jams.
With traffic at a literal standstill on some highways, drivers got out of their cars and did whatever they could to wile away the hours. As photos posted on social networking site Weibo show, some of them got pretty inventive.
