The pigs had just settled down for their post-meal nap when a lightning struck their sty on July 5. The lightning bolt was so strong that it killed nearly all of them immediately. Mrs. Chen, who owns the pig farm located in Guangming Xinqulou, a village in southern China, says that on the day of the fateful event, she saw the pigs “all lying down on their backs, not moving.” Only one of the pigs survived, with just a broken leg.
Mrs. Chen lost about 17,000 euros. Luckily, though, she still has about 150 pigs left. The day after the accident, to make sure the deceased pigs would not be sold, the authorities came to pick up the bodies and immediately incinerated them.
