Texas girl receives flurry of insults for controversial pro-abortion sign

A number of anti-abortion campaigners called a 14-year-old girl on Twitter a “whore” and a “slut” for a sign she made to protest changes to Texas’s abortion law last week. Tuesday Cain carried a sign that read “Jesus isn’t a dick, so keep him out of my vagina” at a protest at the Texas capitol earlier this month. Her father, Billy Joel Cain, posted a picture of her at the protest on Twitter.

Mr Cain came to his daughter's defence on Twitter, calling out those who attacked his daughter for exercising her right to protest.

Cain also defended herself online on the website xojane.com asking why her detractors hated her so much. She described her experience at the protest which included a man screaming “you’re ugly” in her face, as well as the disappointment she felt at being attacked online, suggesting that “adults aren’t behaving like adults". Cain also spoke about her determination and pride in taking part in the protests against the changes to abortion law.

The Texas Abortion bill, otherwise known as House Bill 2 (HB2), was passed by the state senate on July 13. It limits abortions to 20 weeks into a pregnancy, and has forced all but five of the state’s abortion clinics to close.

Senator Wendy Davis mid-filibuster, posted on Twitter (note the shoes!)

In an effort to stop the bill, Democratic Senator Wendy Davis talked for a monumental 11 hours in what is known as a filibuster to try and run out the clock on the legislative session. But Rick Perry, a Republican who opposes abortion, called a special session to take up the abortion bill again. Despite opposition from a number of Democrat senators and numerous medical organisations, the bill was passed with a vote of 19-11.

Pro-abortion sign

Where did a 14-year-old girl get the idea it was okay to use foul, blasphemous language to convey her idea?
And where in the world did someone that young get the idea that abortion is okay? Bad parenting just hit a new low.
