Coat-wearing monkey found at Ikea becomes Internet star

In the last couple days, Ikea has gotten an incredible amount of free publicity thanks to Darwin, a very chic little rhesus monkey. The animal escaped from a cage in a car parked at an Ikea store in Toronto. Surprised customers found him wandering the furniture store’s aisles, wearing a winter coat.

Since then, amateur photos of the incident have popped up on the Internet. A Facebook page was even created to celebrate Darwin’s great escape.

The monkey’s owner was fined 185 euros for illegal possession of the animal. Toronto’s department of animal control placed Darwin in a primate sanctuary north-east of the city. The owner has called for authorities to let the monkey choose his own home.
