As tensions rise between Japan and China
over the control of Senkaku islands (Diaoyu islands to the Chinese), anti-Japan protests are spreading across the Chinese mainland. Over the past few days, numerous Japanese stores and restaurants have been attacked, while Japanese-brand cars have been set on fire.
Our Observer sent us this photo of a Toyota-brand car whose owner, no doubt worried his vehicle would be attacked, put up signs saying: “Boycott Japanese products and destroy Japan’s economy. I bought this car before Japan acted despicably. From now on, let’s boycott Japan.” Meanwhile, several Japanese restaurants have put up Chinese flags and patriotic messages in their windows.
