Brazilian ‘Slut Walk’ protestors corner harasser, turn him over to police

According to participants in a ‘Slut Walk’ held Saturday in Brazil’s capital to protest rape and sexism, a man started heckling them and even unzipped his pants. As the video below shows, protesters cornered the alleged offender up on a rooftop and pelted him with fruits and vegetables.

They later turned him over to the police, who, according to local news reports, arrested him for indecent exposure.

Several thousand women staged ‘Slut Walks’ in cities around Brazil on Saturday. Nearly 3,000 demonstrated in the capital, Brasilia, and about 1,000 in Rio de Janeiro. The video below shows a performance by ‘Slut Walk’ participants in the city of Belo Horizonte.

The first ‘Slut Walk’ was held in Canada last year, after a Toronto police officer caused outrage by suggesting that women should “avoid dressing like sluts” to avoid becoming victims of sexual violence. Since then, ‘Slut Walks’ have been held in over 60 countries to protest against the idea that women should ever be blamed for being raped or harassed.
