Greek neo-Nazi party demands journalists stand to attention for leader

“All rise! All rise! Show your respect!” This order was barked by a member of Greece’s neo-Nazi party, Golden Dawn, to journalists attending a press conference given by the party’s leader Sunday. The journalists who refused were asked to leave the room. Golden Dawn’s leader, Nikos Michaloliakos, then launched into a speech during which he accused mass media of slandering him.

This incident spurred lots of discussion on social media networks in Greece. Many users criticised the journalists who obeyed the order and stood up.

In the parliamentary elections, held May 6, Golden Dawn garnered nearly 7% of the vote and won 21 out of the Greek parliament’s 300 seats.
