Europe’s cold snap seen through your eyes

 
As Louis Armstrong once crooned, baby, it’s cold outside. With Europe in the grip of a bitter cold snap, meteorologists have predicted below freezing temperatures over the weekend in several major cities across the continent. One might think the wintry weather would send the masses scurrying indoors for warmth, but a number of amateur photographers and videographers have braved the cold to bring us these images.

In France’s capital Paris, ducks perch on the frozen surface of a fountain in the city’s Luxembourg gardens.

At the foot of the Italy’s emblematic Colosseum in Rome both tourists and locals delight in the snow.

Seen from above, Rome is blanketed in white powder. Italy has paid a heavy toll since the cold weather hit, with at least 43 people killed since February 1.

Britain was also hit by a spell of heavy snowfall, with temperatures plummeting below zero in some areas. In the country’s northern town of Castleford, a groundskeeper cares for the stadium grass the best he can.

In Bosnia and Herzegovina’s capital Sarajevo, the cold weather was an excuse to jump on a snowboard, attach oneself to a moving vehicle and whip down the streets.

In Irkutsk, one of Siberia’s largest cities, tractors converted into snow-mobiles glided on the frozen streets like ice-dancers.

Even parts of North Africa, such as Libya, have had their fair share of cold this winter. In Tripoli, the roads were blanketed in snow.

Global Warming

Give us all a break you "Global Warming" cranks. Trying to convince us that record cold is really global warming is just a cruel joke. Go and do something useful such as helping someone who is suffering form the extreme cold!
