A Bahraini activist has posted a video on
Twitter that, he claims, shows riot police tearing down a sheath of plastic residents had placed over an air conditioning unit to protect themselves from tear gas. While it is unclear where exactly in Bahrain the video was filmed, the use of tear gas against anti-government protesters in the country has become nonetheless
a growing issue.

On January 26,
Amnesty International published a statement calling on Bahraini authorities to investigate what it labelled “the misuse of tear gas by security forces” after a young man was seriously injured by a tear gas canister allegedly fired at a crowd of protesters by riot police. Amnesty International cited figures from a Bahraini human rights organisation that claim at least 13 people have been killed in tear-gas-related incidents.
Bahrain, despite being predominantly Shiite, is ruled by a Sunni monarchy. The tiny Gulf kingdom has struggled to stamp out mostly Shiite-led anti-government protests in the country since February 2011.
