French junior sports minister Rama Yade sparked a row on Sunday when she said that the French national team should have shown some "decency" when choosing their lodgings for the first phase of the World Cup.
Yade stressed the difficulties of the current financial crisis and compared Les Bleus with the Spanish team, which is staying on a university campus. A government spokesperson defended the team however, saying: "What is important, is that all of the French, including members of the government, are behind their team".
The hotel in question is the Pezula Resort Hotel and Spa, a complex in Knysna which overlooks the Indian Ocean. Described on the website as "Africa's most luxurious complex", a night's stay in one of the 32 apartments costs up to 589 euros.

The soccer teams must come
Submitted by Unregistered user (not verified) on Mon, 14/06/2010 - 12:41.The soccer teams must come and spend their money in luxurous hotels. Where will the average tourist stay if the teams take up modest accommodation?
