Grotesque city centre sinkhole - a gift from Storm Agatha

These photos, posted on Flickr by the Guatemalan government, show an impossibly sized chasm left behind after the passing of Storm Agatha through Guatemala City.

The 60-metre-deep, 30-metre-wide hole, recognised as a sinkhole, came about as a result of underground limestone shifting due to heavy rainfall.

A similar phenomenon was observed in 2007. Rumours of other potential collapses are now forming...
