Two explosions ripped through the central metro stations of Lubyanka and Park Kultury at rush hour this morning, killing at least 37 people. As the day wears on, increasingly graphic images are emerging on the Web.

When changing between [inter-joined] Borovitskaya and Biblioteka Lenina stations, I heard a troubled voice from the loudspeaker:
‘Dear passengers. Due to technical reasons, traffic on the Sokolniky Line is reduced. Please use over-ground transport or other metro stations'.
I waited for a train for seven minutes [the average wait in Moscow at rush hour is 45-60 seconds]. When we got to Kropotkinskaya station [the station preceding Park Kultury], we waited another ten minutes. Then when we moved again we stopped in a tunnel. People in the carriage were talking about an explosion at Lubyanka station, but I thought it was a still only a rumour.
When I was exiting Park Kultury station, there were some policemen walking beside me. A woman asked them: ‘What's going on?' ‘A breakdown' - they replied - ‘Technical reasons'.
At that point something exploded. A train that was going in the opposite direction of the one I'd arrived in, exploded in the middle."

We should have kept the USSR
Submitted by Unregistered user (not verified) on Tue, 30/03/2010 - 22:53.It is ironic that while the US and USSR were posturing at each other this cancer was growing in the middle east, and africa of course.
Given the choice between the sane but paranoid leaders of the Soviet Union and the insane barbarians of islam, I think we chose very poorly.
Hopefully the Russian government will clean up the mess. It is unquestionable that, outside Asia, only Russia has the fortitude to deal with these sub-humans as must be done. Next closest would be France which has a spotty but generally positive record.
I have no idea what the UK and US even think they are playing at. Just wasting young men's lives for no apparent reason. The Russians on the other hand know Exactly what a military is for and how to use it. I believe these fools have bitten off way more than they can chew.
Open question for Vladimir Putin: When you agreed to decrease your nuclear inventory - did you happen to specify HOW you'd be eliminating the excess? Memo from the civilized world: we have a list of suggestions...

As the Russian I want to say
Submitted by The Russian (not verified) on Wed, 31/03/2010 - 07:12.As the Russian I want to say that our government will never let Chechen Republik go away from the Russian Federation. There're many reasons, but the important one is the strategical position of Russia on the North Caucazus.
Yes, I agree that we have so many problems with the Caucazus republics and we have had this problems since the USSR stopped exisisting. Even we have had many federal agreements with the republics in the federation we have many problems with this republics but it's not the reason to let them go away.
In my mind, if we fight against the terrorism we should firstly look for the reasons of it in its roots. All the terrorism has went from the Middle East since the time of the Crusades. And these Crusades have still exists (e.g. wars in Afganistan and Irak).
The world society had better stop these wars. We must let the countries which are still being occupied by NATO and the US army to exist by their own and support them. And then maybe we can stop the terrorism.

Russia
Submitted by morgan JD (not verified) on Wed, 31/03/2010 - 11:10.Thanks to the provision of armaments and other support to the Mujahadin by the Americans, when the USSR was in Afghanistan, the withdrawal of Soviet troops has led to the present situation across the middle east.
As one who has argued for years that had the Muslim problem been in Mexico, the USA would hardly have welcomed a reverse situation.
That said, virtually all of the present Islamic fundamentalism can be directly traced to American foreign policy, ever since they wormed their way in front of British interests in Saudi Arabia.
Not that our behaviour has done much to pacify the region, the Balfour declaration which directly led to the formation of Israel, being a classic example of our own failures in the region.
Further failures by the USA in supporting British and French incursions into Egypt during the Suez crisis, and Persia, when the fundamentalists gained power, also heaped further feelings from the Islamic world, they it could do as it liked against the west.
Saddam Hussein I ignore, for he was a distraction when taking on the Iranians, which just delayed matters a while.
So when the Russian capital is attacked, it can, over the long period this matter has been proceeding, be indirectly laid at the foot of American and British foreign policy, over the last half century or so.
On a personal basis, I hope the Russian bear raises his fist and smacks the region down, maybe then we can all sleep peacefully in our beds, knowing that those maniacs with Allah for their champion have been cauterised to extinction for once and for all.
It seems WE are incapable of taking them down and out, as our apparent impotency in Afghanistan would indicate on present results so far.
Wait didnt Russia give them
