Egypt thumped eight-man Algeria on Thursday in a bad-tempered semi-final that had been intended to mend ties between the feuding countries. The holders fired four goals past the hapless Algerian goalkeeper, avenging their bitter defeat in a World Cup play-off late last year and setting up a final showdown with the Black Stars of Ghana on Sunday. But the talk is likely to focus on the referee’s controversial decision to award Egypt a penalty and show the Desert Foxes the first of three red cards before half-time. Our Observers have their say.Hicham Ezzat lives in Cairo and supports the Pharaohs of Egypt.

I think Algeria did well in this tournament, even though tonight’s score might suggest otherwise. I’m certain they will be deserving ambassadors for Arab and African football at the World Cup this summer. Egypt must now move ahead and focus on Sunday’s final against Ghana – which will be our biggest game of the season."
Hemimi Hadj Sahraoui coaches the Saudi athletics team and is a big fan of the Desert Foxes.

The first yellow card for Halliche was a joke; as was the imaginary penalty. Once Algeria were down to ten men and a goal behind, the match was largely over. But the Desert Foxes should get over this quickly. After all, they have a World Cup to look forward to.

Coach Hemimi is Pathetic
Submitted by Mohamed El Dahshan on Fri, 29/01/2010 - 00:48.Coach Hemimi's defense - and accusation that Egypt won thanks to a biased to a referee - is ludicrous.
Even he admits that the referee had no reason to favour Egypt - so came up with an imaginary stop about the ref owing "a gift to the CAF" which happens to be based in the Egyptian capital - and then Hemimi somehow extrapolates that the referee would be in favour of Egypt? That makes no sense whatsoever.
You, sir, are pathetic and a sore loser.
And, by the way, your team will lose so badly in the World Cup - a qualification grossly undeserved - you'll be embarrassed you even showed up there. They'll tear you a new one, just like Egypt did tonight.
Whip-shhhhh!

Submitted by Omar DZ (not verified) on Mon, 01/02/2010 - 05:49.Algerians are far from bein SORE nor SOUR loosers... Coach was being realistic which is something Egyptians don't understand. Either team could have won the smi finals in fair play, remember it is just a game and it could go either way... What didn't happen in that game is fair play, which means you didn't win it faire and square... Algerians are the MEN that Egyptians wish they could become someday... At least Egyptians learned a thing or two about being a MAN = ALGERIAN since the DRAMA unfolded before July 2009. You guys are known for your treachery, remember what you did to the Algerian team in Cairo in the 80's when the lights were turned off in the stadium and thousands of fans were allowed to attack the team on the playground... oh! you were probably not born yet, and no Egyptian adult would tell you the truth, it's just not an Egyptian nature... oh well!!!
The truth and the matter about Egypt, is that it must HURT so much for them to be disqualified by the ALGERIAN Team for the World Cup. It hurst to the point they made it very clear that they were going to go past the Desert Foxes, regardless of the means, to prove they are worthy of going to the World Cup (i.e. Zidane said "We're going to teach the Algerians a lesson in football"). What they did is teach them a lesson in treachery. Reality is the only ones that believe those lies are the Egyptians themselves, because they are either ignorant (i.e. 60% of the population) or under the regime's soothing dope... LoL!!!
For your information, in 1982 Algeria BEAT Germany fair and square (something you don't fathom the essence of, in Egypt). Rest assured, the Desert Foxes won't get wipped like the Egyptian team would, and history will prove me right. You know why? Cuz we're used to FAIR PLAY, which you can't understand...
As far as the previous writer blaming the Algerian "Couldn't control their temper..." Guess what??? We'll have you wear the uniform and play on any team being pushed to the limits like the Algerians were pushed in such intensive game... Then and only then we'll measure your temperature and let's see how your reaction would be... that is if you can make it through the 90 minutes of the game... Easier said than done... BLA BLA BLA!!!
Regardless of who says what, the Algerian team was # 103 on the FIFA ranking last year, it is # 26 this month...
Egyptians may say whatever they want, they are probably celebrating an other shamefull trophee tonight presented to them by a referee who almost wore the Egyptian uniform and played with them against 8 Algerian Players (12-8)... By the way, let's not forget he (Referee) is married to an Egyptian woman (that no Egyptian man could satisfy) and they live in Cairo too... At the end of the day, they (Egyptians) don't care and why should we??? So what's the point? I say, get rid of the CAF (Corrupt African Federation) and replace it with the FIFA, YES IT CAN BE DONE, because the CAF would be worthless if the only memeber is Egypt... then the CAN would have a meaning... for now it's just an other Egyptian Drama Series... ;) Shame Shame Shame, the most DISGRACEFUL CUP and team on the planet...
For Your Information, here is the "CAF Administration" copied from "www.cafonline.com" the official website of the CAF.
I will let you decide the percentage of Egyptians working for the CAF... amazing huh :)

Firstly you should go see a doctor just for using the word.
Secondly, you should also look at the penalty as legally it was not done properly.
Anyway, the CAF HQ location should by now be changed to another city and another country.
Thanks Fod they won 4 - 0 against 8 players. Egypt, it is a shameful qualification.
I would like to thank all those Egyptians who use common sense.

Submitted by Unregistered user (not verified) on Sat, 30/01/2010 - 04:58.Seriousely, it is just a soccer game. yes we won 4 - 0 , but we should not be fighting like the end of the world. i have Morracan freind told me Algeria is the only good thing happend to them in the past 20 years, is they won our game, they, lived in internal war , and terrosiam , radicalism, racism, even against themselves, and "after that Algerian collect 22 Illigel Immigrant barely speak Arabic , to defend " a great country" lost 1000 000 Myrtim against colonism. We as Egyptians should not pay mind to those creatures "Algerians" not human of course. they do not even have TV channels, this is 2010 , you guys need billion years to be animals. ask your familly in Europe and they live on Welfare and social work, as low life people.

Algerians are NOT poor, we have OIL and Natural gas, we do NOT have riots for bread (3iiiish), so before you open your dirty mouth, you should check your facts, idiot.
We ALGERIANS are not animals, but you are... just go south to the SAID or look in a mirror and you'll see an ANIMAL. FYI, No one even with a European or American passeport for that matter enters ALGERIA without a VISA, something you guys can't even dream of having in your "OUM DOUNYA", because without tourism, you WILL DIE of HUNGER... No Israeli will ever enter Algeria, not even with a 100 VISAs and not EVER, you guys let them in with an ID, not even a passeport... So before you open your dirty mouth, you should check your facts, idiot.
We Algerians paid for the weapons you guys used to fight your own wars in 1967 and 1973, but you probably were not even born, otherwise you'll have more respect for ALGERIANS... so before you open your dirty mouth, you should check your facts, you idiot.
We ALGERIANS, came and fought your wars on the ground man to man with you assholes in 1967 & 1973 while your airforce was completely destroyed and your generals were caught with their mistresses in their underware... So before you open your dirty mouth, you should check your facts, you idiot.
Before you open your dirty mouth, you should check your facts, you idiot, so next time you see an ALGERIAN, you call him "YA SA3ADT AL-BACHA" and thank him for what ALGERIA and its MEN have done for you, you worthless and ungracious poor Egyptians. The truth and the matter is, the whole world is laughing at YOU, and the ARAB world knows you too well now, so the only friend you got left is Isreal, and the usa which gives you 20 billions to feed you and to keep you as servants, and you will always remain as such... so before you open your dirty mouth, you should check your facts, you idiot.
Take a hard look at your country, since Gamal Abd Nasser died, Egypt was burried with him, and gone with the wind... He was a true leader, what you have now is nothing but kiss ass corrupt politicians... so before you open your dirty mouth, you should check your facts, idiot...
And 1, 2, 3, Viva l'ALGERIE in the WORLD CUP while Egyptians will be watching and crying as the Desert Foxes are wining... You will still have a dirty and shameful cup and as long as Corrupt African Football is in Cairo, you will keep getting the African cup. But as long as you'll play the Algerian team, you will NOT go to the WORLD CUP... and before you open your dirty mouth, you should check your facts, YOU IDIOT...
I rest my case... Idiot!!!
Algerians should revise themselves !!

Submitted by SanDMaN (not verified) on Wed, 03/02/2010 - 13:07.Omar was speaking out of anger, not ignorance, and I can relate to that, because he was provoked by ignorant and rude insults to his country and countrymen, just like I got provoked by insults to Egypt and Egyptians, but I respect Omar, because he was willing to see another point of view, and acknowledge that he was speaking out of anger, a passion for his country, and that he was mistaken in some of the things he said. He was not ashamed to acknowledge that. When was the last time you did that?
You're probably one of the people who believes Algerian players hurt themselves in Cairo. Ignorant Egyptian hooligans threw stones at them, just like algerian hooligans attacked and threatened our countryment in Sudan. Those are facts.
You Sir, are adding fuel to the fire, instead of ackowledging that both Algerians and Egyptians did mistakes and trying to get past it. Stop adding fuel to a fire that some of us are trying to put out. And remember football is a beautiful game that's supposed to bring people together not tear them apart. How about people start acting civilized, how about we start being good sports, and telling the team that lost hard luck, you guys put up a great fight, it was an honor to play you, instead of gloating like a bunch of school children and reaffirming all the negative stereoteypes and ignorance that contribute to our labeling as third world countries huh .. ? (this applies to both algerians and egyptians, in fact all arabs)
Long Live Egypt.. and Vive L'Algerie.. remember we are all brothers, genetically we are all related, down to a single woman who lived in eastern africa 150,000 years ago, the differences that we put between us be they borders, religions, skin colors, whatever.. they mean nothing.
Think about that for a while.
