US photoblogger Kevin German took pictures of a gymnasium in Beijing just before the start of a weightlifting contest. He noticed that most seats were empty... until the arrival of professional supporters.

" They're asked to sit right in front of the cameras "

US photoblogger Kevin German went to Beijing to uncover the Olympics' backstage.

I attended my second Olympic event today. Some friends were kind enough to give me a ticket for the men's weightlifting prelims. I didn't stay too long but long enough to make an overall photo showing the empty seats for the venue that was said to be sold out.

And then to contrast that, I came upon the people that the government asked to go fill those seats at live televised games. They are called Cheer Beijing Workers. They wear funky yellow t-shirts and red caps. There were hundreds of them walking to the Worker's Stadium for the USA vs. Japan women's soccer match. They are told to sit directly in front of the TV cameras at any given arena and to cheer for China ... so I've been told. I was shooting this when I came upon the scalper getting arrested in the previous post.

The last photo is of a poor man waiting outside the fence of Worker's Stadium asking for recyclable bottles from all of the fans. Something that you don't see too often here. The government took steps to make sure all of the beggars and migrant workers were outside the city limits before the games began."

Mr. German is cherry picking

Mr. German is cherry picking on what he presented as the "truth".
There's nothing wrong for the Chinese wanted to cheer the athletes from all over the world. Nothing is faked.

The real fakes are the reporting from CNN, BBC toward Bush's Iraqi war.
The western media reported only sanitized "news" and attributed over 100,000 Iraqi deaths as merely collateral damages.

china doesn't cheat?!!!?

Makes you wonder what else is faked. Tried to watch Olympics with an open mind, but every article I come across like this is making me shudder. Seems to confirm to me that the Chinese government will do anything to look good while seriously underestimating the intelligence of the rest of the world.

Every single ticket has been sold out, you must got wrong

The game you mentioned in your article is the most sought after one, every single ticket was sold out; your picture has showed the people who came earlier to prepare the game ( cleaners). We all saw from the TV how full the room was, never sew the people who wearing that uniforms on the seats( I have been some not so popular game, it was full packed with paople). your photo must took between the competetions. What is your purpose to tell this meaningless lie to the people? YOu are not only to tell a meaning less lie, also it shows how naive you are, and the only people as naive as you would believe the lie you have made up! Stop to make yourself like a fool!

Oh please... If the tickets

Oh please...

If the tickets are sold out, and the venue is full with (actual) spectators, why would your government need to fill it with an army of yellow-uniforms-for-hire?

And I thought wumaodangs are only operating on Chinese bbs...
