Maradona in Cannes: "more than a star - a god"

One of our Observers at Cannes got a place at the viewing of the documentary on football star Maradona, by Palme d'Or winner Emir Kusturica, screened on Wednesday 21. A quick juggle with the ball and a 20-minute-long standing ovation before the start of the film; the "god" hasn't lost his touch...

I managed to get to watch the projection on Wednesday [May 21] of Kusturica, the film about Maradona. It was an unforgettable experience. Once Maradona arrived, no one else existed. He's more than a star - he's a god. Even Spike Lee was held back by the bouncers when he tried to get close. The atmosphere was crazy: "Olé olé olé olé DIEGO DIEGO olé olé DIEGO" ... When Diego Maradona arrived in the room a standing ovation began and went on for twenty minutes. Then during the film the atmosphere was electric. At each goal, the crowd howled. I felt I was actually in the film itself. Even if I considered that the film could have been better, he knew to choose a film that would get a reaction out of the public (even from those at Cannes who are generally more reserved). He transformed one of the most prestigious festival rooms in the world into an Argentine football stadium. What a great success."

maradona is not a star in france

hello i'm french ,my english is very bad and i'm very sorry for this.
maradona is not a star in my country.he is only a best football player for a last generation suppoter .
I doesn't know a people have a love with a fanatisme this player

Football legend

Maradona was real football legend. He played with ball like magician. Every touch was amazing.
And now he thinks to be a cinema star ? I think it's not suitable for him. Better he would teach young players to play well.

Maradona a GOD?

I cannot understand why people see him as a God... the guy it's just popular; sure he can play Soccer, but what else? has he given hope to people? On what? Overcoming drugs? I have nothing but pity for him, I’d actually say .. what a waste… he WAS a guy with potential…
I feel sorry that many people out there actually take for granted other individuals that succeeded in overcoming poverty, segregation (sexual, racial, from religion, etc), individuals that actually help other people with his or her acts … common people… everyday people… bottom-line is that we have a very low SUPERSTAR standards.
